Cranes: The Heavy Lifters
The featured photo of this post is of the current Loma Linda University Medical center circa 1964. Back then, a tower crane was used along with a rail mounted lattice boom crane. The cranes of today still do the heavy lifting only they have computerization and GPS technology
along with some of the amenities of home that the crane operators of yesteryear could not even imagine. It is only fitting that the
cranes used in the construction of the current medical center be featured in this post.

The heavy duty hydraulic telescopic crane as seen in the previous photo is shown lifting a hydraulic lift into the pit.

The smaller crane which was lifted from the pit earlier in the day by the larger crane is soon used to extend the boom on the larger crane.

With the boom extension completed, the smaller crane looks like a tinker toy next to the larger crane.
