Razing “Mary M” *Completed*
A closeup of one of the “Mary M” apartment units, which is also slated for demolition. The remaining rubble of the smaller unit to the east provides an unusual–king of the mountain– perch for the excavator.
The western unit, as seen from Prospect Avenue, is visible above the construction fence.
The excavator idles as it waits for the truck to pull out of the driveway so that the demolition process can continue.
The demolition begins on the eastern unit.
The last of the “Mary M” units are reduced to rubble.
The empty lot where the “Mary M’ apartments stood for over a half-century. All that is left in shadows of the Medical Center are the memories and the land. Underground utilities will run underground through this section. Heavy equipment and material needed for various stages of construction will make good use of the property as Prospect Avenue is being renovated.
Just prior to the demolition of the “Mary M” apartments, the property was fenced and draped with windscreen material. The passer-bys were able to watch as the excavator jaws crushed the buildings until the rubble fell below the fencing. For safety reasons, much like a crime scene, the property on which the “Mary M’ apartments once stood is hidden from view. After the work is completed and the danger is no longer viable, the fencing will be removed.
