At the Right Place At the Right Time: A CHLA Air Transport Lands on the LLUCH Helipad
After photographing the third floor decking and steel for the three floors that had been erected this week, Gordon, the lift operator took me back down to the platform. Just as I stepped off of the lift, a helicopter was heard then seen chackk-chak-chak, chak-a-chak-akk-chk-chk-chk its way from the southeast toward the south helipad. I asked Gordon to take me back up to the third floor, which he did. We made it just in time for me to shoot this video while he went back to the second floor to pick up some laborers on the second floor. As I looked closer, I noticed that this rather large helicopter was a Children’s Hospital Los Angeles air transport. Just for fun, I decided to make the photo into a black and white 3D photo composition. In the video clip below, the 3D feature, photo composition, comes to life.
While the work continued on the new steel skeleton above the third floor, a Los Angeles Children’s Hospital Los Angeles air transport landed on the helipad above the Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital. Soon this view for those who live and work east of the hospital will no longer be able the helicopters land on the current children’s hospital. In the future when helicopters land on the helipad of the new adult hospital, some 17-stories up, helicopter landing will be almost impossible to witness close in to the hospital.
