The Week of February 4, 2019 — Rain, a New Crane, More Rain, Snow in the Local Mountains, and a Field Trip to the 17th Floor of the Hospital Tower

It is not often that we get a good snow fall in the Local San Bernardino Mountains: When we do it is a big deal! Because of the cold front that made its way south from the northwest, we got a good dusting, which makes for a great Chamber of Commerce weather. Much to the ski operators delight in Big Bear and other ski runs in the area, the snow pack ranges from 37 inches to 53 inches. The feature image, a closeup, was taken from the roof (level 10) of the Children’s Hospital tower.

Last week, the Liebherr LTM 1400 – 7.1 fixed jib (with a Y-Gig attachment) crane, which had been erected to hoist the large HVAC units up to the fourth floor was dismantled and trucked away. On Monday, February 4, 2019, the Bragg Crane company based out of Fontana, California trucked in the parts for an American 8460 Lattice-Boom Truck Crane. Despite the intermittent rain, the crane had been erected by mid afternoon. Why was another crane erected on the south side? Each crane has a specific use and each subcontractor brings in the crane, which best suits their product and lifting requirements.

A Grand View From the 17th Floor of the Adult Hospital Tower

Non-stop it now takes over one minute to take the outside elevator from the ground level to the roof (aka the 17th floor). Once on top one has a grand view. One floor down (16th floor) along the north side (to the right) of this image will be a long terrace (walkway) that will lead to the Administrative Conference Room. From that panoramic vantage point one will be able to see forever.
In this north elevation view one can see where the Terrace and Administrative Conference Room will be located.
At the top of this artist rendering one can clearly see the terrace, and to its right is the Administrative Conference Room behind the glass windows.
