A Look Back in Time: A Century and a Year

What a Difference a Century Makes

The image on the left, in this featured photo, is a photograph of the Loma Linda Sanitarium, circa 1900, perched on the north side of the hill (or mound) overlooking the valley below. Should the founders of the campus look to the south today (2019), their mind’s eye would default to the established sanitarium as it was 119-years ago. As reality set in that the sanitarium was no longer there, they might be hard-pressed to explain the tall structure rising from behind the mound. By the way, I categorically deny taking the photo on the left.

October 10 — What a Difference a Year Makes

October 10, 2018: The building’s skeleton of steel that had yet to rivel the towers of the existing Medical Center.
October 10, 2019: One year later, the dirt still surrounds the building at grade, but the steel is clad in an envelope of glass panels and Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete (GFRC) panels that give the structure a reflective architectural presence as it towers high above the valley floor.
