The Adult Tower’s Roofline Melds Architecturally into the Campus Skyline

A few months after the applause subsides at the groundbreaking ceremonies, the newness of a construction project begins to wear off. The initial heavy equipment noise gives way to the rhythmic sounds of the hammer blows of progress. The subtle day-to-day exterior changes became commonplace until one-day reality sets in — from the exterior, the building appears complete as the roofline melds architecturally into the campus skyline. But, behind the facade, the buildout of the interior on all floors continues. At grade, out of sight, hidden by the security fence: Curbing, parking spaces, service roads, common areas, and landscaping, are woven into the tapestry of the project. Immediately after the ribbon-cutting, and before those who attended the grand event, the present becomes the past — For on the appointed day and the appointed time, the new structure joins the storied legacy as stated in the campus motto: “To Make Man Whole.”

Four December Images That Gave Way to Reality

The images in the four-panel collage above show the three-year progress made on the Loma Linda University Health campus. The first image in the panel reveals the gaping pit that provided a hole in our imagination. We tried to visualize how all the pieces would come together to one-day become the towering structure represented in the last frame.
