The Mound City Chronicles

The Mound City Chronicles

The above image is a copy of the cover of the book, The Mound City Chronicles, published in 2007. Upon reviewing the book, Larry E. Burgess, Ph.D., Director, A. K. Smiley Public Library, wrote: “A service to history and to the Loma Linda University constituency is the result of Dennis Park’s centennial pictorial book. The photographs offer a multi-layered information base of discovery. Most of the views will be seen by the public for the first time. They offer a superb insight into the who, what, where, and how of the University’s history and that of the surrounding community.”

For purposes of this blog, I have included the introduction and the forward of the book. Both sections will give the reader a better “….insight,” as Larry Burgess wrote, “into the who, what where, and how of the University’s history….” and how its mission lead to the decision to embark on this historic Loma Linda University Campus Transportation Project, which is the subject of this blog.
