The End of an Era, and . . .

One of the signs directing patients to use the new Emergency Room entrance off of Prospect Avenue.
Beyond the signs are the now-former Emergency Room ambulance and walk-in patient entrances. The sign has been removed, which is an additional indicator that the Emergency Department is CLOSED! No ambulances, patients, family members, and security officers is a bit unnerving for someone who has been used to seeing all of the urgent activity in this area. Fear not! New, state-of-the-art Emergency Departments-for children, as well as adults, are just around the corner.

Standing in front of the Adult Emergency Department on the southeast side of the complex, Kelley a Trauma ER nurse, and a coworker hold an Emergency Room color-coordinated floor plan which will be used to acquaint her fellow team members where all the rooms are located.
Three co-workers walk through the doors of the Adult Emergency Department ready to begin their first shift in the new hospital.
The Children’s Emergency Department is located on the southwest side of the hospital. Behind the doors, the ER staff is preparing for their first shift in the new hospital.
Alfred Simental, MD, Chairman of the Department of Head and Neck Surgery, and Tamara Thomas, MD, Emergency Department Physician, and Executive Vice President for Medical Affairs pose for a photograph before entering through the doors of the Adult Emergency Department.
Just after 7:00 AM, the first ambulance enters. The life-saving work is about to commence.
