Elements of the Foundation: The Concrete Vault Sumps

With the inside of the northwest concrete vault sump pits formed, the plumbing and electrical for the pumps are in the process of being installed
before the concrete foundation is poured. These sumps are located in the areas where the mechanical room will be will be constructed.

The preformed northwest sumps, which are the same sumps as depicted in the previous photo, has now been encased in rebar. The electrical and plumbing pipes have been wrapped to prevent splatter from sticking to the pipes as the concrete is poured.

Part of the “We Are Safety” motto is maintaining a clean work area. Keeping the work area clear of debris helps in preventing accidents. This
laborer is removing the debris from the recent wind storm from the bench area above the northeast concrete vault sump. The white PVC
pipes sticking out from the shoring wall will eventually drain into a concrete drainage trench, which will carry the water to the four
concrete vault sumps. The water will then be pumped out of the sumps and into the proper waste water evacuation system.
