The Week of June 23, 2019 — So Long to the Crane, the Status on the Tunnel Trench, the Schuman Pavilion Pedestrian Bridge, the Domestic Water Pit, and a Little Bit of This and That

The featured image for this post is of the east elevation of the new hospitals with the crane ‘knifed’ at attention as the twilight gives way to darkness. To the right and behind the crane lights have been turned on for an all-nighter at the main entrance the Medical Center.

This working week began for me at 5:50 AM on Sunday, June 23, 2019, early in the morning when a crew began their task of disassembling the Liebherr LR 1300. See https://docuvision2020.com/index.php/2019/06/22/so-long-to-the-crane-that-grew-the-towers/ Actually, the week began on Saturday night, June 22, 2019, when a crew blocked the main entrance to the Medical Center to bring in the big crawler drilling machine to drill three deep holes where 67-foot rebar caissons would be lowered. Once the rebar is in place the holes are filled with concrete. This project was scheduled to be completed by Sunday evening in order to open the main drive to the Medical Center.

As the crane moves off the site, the yards around the perimeter of the structure will be quiet for much of the week, as the subcontractors gear up for turning the soil for the Galleria on the north side. Work could not begin on this phase until the crane and decking were gone. On the southeast corner of the building work will continue on fitting pipes to the large domestic water pipes will continue. Around on the west side between the existing Medical Center and the new structure, work will continue on the trench, wherein a tunnel between the building will be constructed.

During the disassembly of the crane, I made my way up to the fifth floor where I spent some time photographing the San Manuel Maternity Pavilion. See https://docuvision2020.com/index.php/2019/06/26/welcome-to-the-fifth-floor-labor-and-delivery/ where a new post begins to explore this floor, which along with the podium below forms the base for which the three towers rise.

Has the water pit been filled in?
Is the excavation of the Schumann pavilion elevator pit finished?
When is excavation of the tunnel going to continue?

Only the firewater pit. They are still working on the domestic water pit and the piping. I will be putting photos of those two pits tomorrow.
