The Week of July 13 — Nearing the End of the Construction Phases

The featured image for this week represents the various phases of the Loma Linda University Health Campus Transformation Project.

Where does the Loma Linda University Health Campus Transformation Project (LLUHCTP) stand as of the week of July 13, 2020? At the beginning of a project everyone is excited. There may have been some make ready work, then there was the actual construction, the length of which depends on the size of the project, and then the construction ends. Between the beginning and the end of a project there are a number of construction phases. I the case of the Loma Linda project there are seven phases as identified by one of the job superintendents. There are some overlapping of stages as the project move from one phase to the other. As an example, as of July 13, 2020, crews are working on phases five (V), six (6), and substages within these two groups. Rough grading has begun on phase seven (VIII).

Phases of the LLUHCTP

Phase I: Make Ready and Site Work

Phase II: Foundations

Phase III: Superstructure

Phase IV: Facade

Phase V: Interior Buildout

Phase VI: Commissioning (Equipment Testing)

Phase VII: Grading Improvements, Landscaping

While construction continues at the site, the pandemic continues. Up to Wednesday of last week (July 8, 2020), the COVID-19 issue has been nothing but statistics, inconvenience, and features on the news. However, that has all changed as a very dear friend was rushed to the Loma Linda University Medical Center. He was diagnosed with the virus, and continues treatment in ICU. I now know some some who is a statistic. The Pandemic has become very personal to me!

In the meantime, life goes on, the travails of technology read its ugly head at the end of last week and into this week. My internet was not functioning properly, which delayed uploading the images. Hopefully, the issue has been resolved.

A Shout Out to Those Who Labor at the Loma Linda University Health Campus Transformation Project

Each week the website will feature some of the crew who are working hard as the project begins to wind down.

Three buddies, Steve, Ramirez, and Javier, in the carpenters union, put the final touches on the east-west footings for the ambulance screen wall. Concrete is scheduled to be poured at 4:00 AM. Steve assured me he would be there! I don’t think so!
