Schuff Steel and a Few of the “Raising Gang” Has Returned to the Site
Schuff Steel, the contractor that set the steel for the podium and towers, has returned to the site to prepare for three (“H”) steel projects that will connect the existing structure to the new building’s podium. To the north: steel columns and beams will rise out of an elevator pit just east of Schuman Pavilion. To the two-story structure, a pedestrian bridge will connect the new building with Schuman Pavilion. To the west, Schuff Steel will erect two pedestrian bridges that will connect the podium of the new structure to the existing Children’s Hospital and Medical Center. One bridge will connect to the second floor and the second bridge will connect to the third floor.
It was anticipated that the beams were to be set on the columns on the north side of the project toward the end of August 19, 2019. https://docuvision2020.com/index.php/2018/08/20/the-week-of-august-19-2018-the-east-elevation-is-a-changin/ However, there was a scheduling delay due to the random moving pieces in the elevator pit that were required to be completed before the steel beams could be hung.
A word about “H” projects: “H” stands for “Hospital(s) and are additional construction projects that are sub-projects to the actual buildings themselves (podium, Adult Hospital, and Children’s Hospital towers) that are required before the total project is completed. Construction permits for “H” projects allowed to be submitted and approved after the construction of the main project(s) are well underway. These submissions and approvals can take place several months or even years after construction began on the principal project. These “H” projects can be internally referred to by number such as “H-1” through how many “H” projects there are.
